"I was fortunate to grow up spending part of the summer at our family home on a lake in New York State. The idea for these paintings came late one night when I was sitting on the dock, looking across the lake at the distant shoreline. It was a beautiful night, dark and calm, serene. I was transfixed. The basic elements of sky, land, water, and reflection came together as a perfect contemplative subject. They are not about specificity of place, but are evocations—they're tonal meditations on the landscape, and partake of the dreamlike feeling that comes from expressing one’s deepest memories."—Mark DeMuro
