Lynn Davis
Sphinx, Memphis, Egypt, 1997
Lynn Davis contemplates the sublime in her photographs. Her minimalist works are meditations on the aesthetic and symbolic power of the natural and manmade world and take as their subjects some of the most recognizable sites on earth, such as the ancient Egyptian pyramids and Angkor Wat. This work is from her 1989 series Egypt in which she removes all reference to human scale and contemporary activity to explore the enduring power of these monuments and places.
