“The allure of gold continues from ancient to modern times. I have used gold leaf extensively in sculpture and have now begun…to use it on photographs, which really are snapshots. By highlighting in relief and gold-leafing a part of the photo, I have discovered that the picture implies the possibility of new narratives. One begins to ask, ‘What is going on?’ and make up one’s own stories for this composition.”—Lynda Benglis
