Abstract
In this seminar, Professor Robertson will explore how music serves as both map
and metaphor for the dynamic tension between personal identity and the group. He
discusses the complex power plays at work in creative teams, their multiple
layers of Leadership, strategies of power, influence, control and manipulation
and suggests that such archetypal psychological dramas inform the musical
structure and the underlying brain behaviours of the protagonists. Speaking from
a unique personal perspective he will seek to discover the paradoxes involved in
sharing Implicit Knowledge and directing and sustaining peak performance and
artistic excellence. He welcomes questions and debate and looks forward to
discussing issues such as Integrity, the rehearsal process, the measure of
success etc. He will also bring, as an example of the high point of 18th century
technology, his beautiful Montagnana violin.
