This seminar will present initial observations and frameworks from course research on Network IT (NIT), which is defined as IT that enables unstructured interaction among collaborators. The session has four goals: to give a 'guided tour' of these technologies focusing on those most relevant to corporate computing, to discuss the characteristics of NITs and offer a categorization, to present the teaching agenda for the NIT module of the EC course devoted to IT, and most importantly to stimulate discussion among seminar participants on the the importance and impact of these technologies and on potentially fruitful course development and research directions.
Technologies discussed will include
- the Wikipedia and enterprise wikis
- the 'blogosphere:' blogs, RSS, social networking sites, etc.
- BitTorrent
- massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs)
- craigslist.org
- the Iowa Futures Market
