The Initiative on Social Enterprise is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Wei-Skillern to the HBS faculty as a visiting assistant professor. Wei-Skillern comes to HBS from the London Business School where she was an assistant professor of organizational behavior.
"We are extremely fortunate to have such a talented colleague who is so deeply committed to social enterprise join our ranks," says Professor James E. Austin, faculty chair of the Initiative on Social Enterprise. "We look forward with excitement to Jane's enrichment of our teaching and research."
Wei-Skillern is a member of the General Management unit, where she will continue her research in nonprofit management and corporate social responsibility. She is also teaching Applied Personal Skills in First-Year Foundations and the Social Enterprise course in the required curriculum.
She earned a B.S. in business administration at the University of California, Berkeley and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior at Stanford University; her thesis topic was minority- and women-focused venture capital.
From the time she decided to pursue an academic career, Wei-Skillern says her direction and intention were ultimately to pursue research and to teach in the area of social enterprise. "I'm thrilled to be at HBS," she notes. "The opportunity to work with my colleagues in the social enterprise area, to pursue my research, and to teach in a variety of social enterprise courses is truly unparalleled."
