When I was at American Express, I thought that business school would be a good way to learn about different career options and to possibly transition into an area that would be more mission-driven.
Careers & Connections
I joined the Social Enterprise Club at HBS and served as a panel coordinator for the annual conference. I served as conference co-chair during my second year, which was a great way to meet people from across the sector.
I first worked at Teach for America as an intern through the Social Enterprise Summer Fellowship Program. After graduation, I returned as an HBS Leadership Fellow. For the first few months, I focused on a number of cross-departmental projects for the COO. I then moved into a managerial position on our development team, overseeing seven people working on corporate partnerships, federal grants, and gift processing.
After my Fellowship ended, I stayed on as a permanent hire and shifted to our human assets team, focusing on an overhaul of our performance evaluation system and the way we think about leadership development. Now I'm working in recruitment, managing a group focused on schools in the Northeast.
So far, I've loved all my jobs here—where I'm at right now is a great intersection of management, strategy, and marketing, and it's very concrete in terms of goals. In the future, I'd like to stay in education in some capacity; I believe it's one of the most important issues facing society today, and it allows me to use my strengths to make a real difference.
