Program Overview
Students undertaking a Social Enterprise field study or ISR are eligible to apply for reimbursement grants to support their project expenses. Grants are awarded to support these academic projects by providing funding for expenses directly related to research and analysis. The grant does not support expenses related to start–up business expenses. See "Application details and process" for details.
Reimbursement grants are awarded on a case–by–case, funds–available basis. In the past the typical amount granted has been:
- up to $1,000 for an ISR
- up to $2,000 for a field study*
Program Criteria
- Social Enterprise must be a core element of the field study or ISR, and grants will be awarded based on the strength of this component in the application. Social Enterprise projects may include work with specific organizations or undertaking an industry study related to:
- nonprofit or public–sector organizations/management issues
- for–profit organizations in which the mission and the core activities of the organization have a direct social purpose
- business approaches where the core focus is social impact, including environmental sustainability or corporate social responsibility.
- Field studies and ISRs must meet all requirements outlined on the HBS Field-Based Learning website. (intranet login required)
- Only second-year HBS students formally registered for the field study are eligible to apply for the grant.
