Sale on Ludlow Street

The drawing depicts a hat sale at Amy Dowing's hat shop on the corner of Stanton and Ludlow Streets in the lower East Side of Manhattan. This area is in the middle of a burst of development, filling up with chic cafes and nightclubs. The result of the accelerating rents is that small businesses like this one have gone out of business or have relocated.
