The images are barely discernible yet carry powerful emotional content based on feelings of tentativeness and vulnerability. The haunting photographs emerge from darkness and are less concerned with the immediacy of loss than the exploration of the essence of mortality. Of his shadow-like photographs Jacobson says, "Their faded quality is a reflection of how the mind works - struggling to hold onto memories as they dim."
