I was fortunate to grow up spending part of the summer at our family home on a lake in New York State. The idea for these paintings came late one night when I was sitting on the dock, looking across the lake at the distant shoreline. It was a beautiful night, dark and calm, serene. I was transfixed. The basic elements of sky, land, water, and reflection came together as a perfect contemplative subject. They are not about specificity of place, but are evocations - they're tonal meditations on the landscape, and partake of the dreamlike feeling that comes from expressing one's deepest memories.
