Aptekar appropriates paintings by artists of the past, both old masters and less known painters. The glass panels bolted to the paintings are etched with narratives about his conflicting artistic and ethnic identities. He means to encourage audiences to engage with his art-historical "deconstruction" in order to provoke the viewer into a discussion.
