First Steps
How do companies recruit at HBS with MBA Career & Professional Development?

There are a number of ways a company can get involved with the Career & Professional Development office, depending on the company's level of interest and available recruiting resources.

At a minimum, companies may post a job description on our website. Many companies use this as their first step to recruiting at HBS.

If companies are interested in increasing their profile among students, they often choose to participate in on-campus MBA Career & Professional Development-sponsored presentations and networking events, conduct a presentation off-campus, or arrange an educational content presentation through a club.

Companies may also choose to interview students on- or off-campus during either the dedicated interview period, the post-dedicated period, or anytime later in the year. Our office provides companies with rooms for on-campus interviewing and facilitates the scheduling of interviews. Some companies choose to schedule their own interviews and hold their interviews at nearby locations off-campus. Please refer to the Recruiting Options page to sign-up for on-campus interviews.

Job Descriptions
How does a company post a job description?

Job descriptions for both first- and second-year students may be posted throughout the year on our website, free of charge. Please visit Post a Job Info and click on the Post a Job button at the bottom of the page. After clicking the Post a Job button, you will be directed to create an HBS Account by entering your contact information, specific information regarding your position, and a username/password. It is very important that you complete the registration process by responding to the automated email that you receive after you have posted your job.

It is also important to note that once you are a registered user you will log in by clicking the registered user link, not the Post a Job button. Our system will enable you to log in at any time to post jobs, view jobs, and receive applications.

For companies interested in targeting HBS graduates, job descriptions may be posted through Alumni Recruiting). Questions regarding targeting HBS Alumni may be directed to career_advisors@hbs.edu.

How does a company receive student applications?

When posting a job in our Job Bank, companies have the option to have resumes submitted either through the internal Job Bank system or via an external channel (e.g., email address or website). Resumes submitted through the internal system may be collected by logging into the Recruiter Dashboard and downloading applications.

Presentations
What are Company Information Days?

Company Information Days is the primary first-year presentation period and the kick-off to first-year recruiting. Presentations will be held over two dedicated days and companies will have the opportunity to network with students in a Meet & Greet Session on the day of the presentation. This program has replaced the Dedicated Presentation Period that ran over the course of several weeks and allows companies to see first-year students earlier.

What does MBA Career & Professional Development provide for companies holding on-campus presentations?

Our office provides a presentation room on campus and all audio/visual equipment (including IT support). All on-campus presentations are posted on the campus-wide event calendar. In addition, we publish a calendar of all company presentations (on- and off-campus) to help market the events.

Presentations will be scheduled beginning on designated dates for each class (See our Policies and Guidelines for dates) and provide an excellent opportunity for a company to educate students about everything from the corporate culture to opportunities that exist for MBAs. We encourage you to consider an on-campus presentation; however, you may hold an off-campus presentation with date approval from our office.

Can companies present off-campus?

Companies may present off-campus, and typically reserve rooms at the Charles Hotel or the Doubletree Hotel. All off-campus presentations must be approved by MBA Career & Professional Development so that we may assist in choosing a date with minimal conflicts. Companies are not allowed to schedule any events during class time.

How much do on campus presentations cost?

On campus company presentations are free of charge.

How do companies avoid scheduling conflicts with their presentations?

Our office makes every effort to avoid scheduling companies representing similar industries at the same time.

For first-year recruiting, one of the advantages of participating during Company Information Days is that we can ensure there are no industry conflicts. In addition, the academic calendar is blocked so clubs are unable to schedule events and students do not have class.

Offer Negotiations
Where may companies find salary information for career and internship positions?

All salary information is posted among our Statistics & Data. Companies may search multiple years of data using such fields as industry, function, location, offer timing, and company size.

Where do companies view our policies and guidelines?

Companies may find the complete listing of our policies and guidelines on our website. Any questions should be directed to the Career & Professional Development Office.

Resume Books
What are resume books? How can companies order them for current first-and second-year students?

The Resume Book is a compilation of first- and second-year student resumes, available to help companies identify students who fit their needs. Companies may search for students based on such criteria as career interests, work experience, undergraduate degree, foreign language skills, and location preference. Companies can purchase the Resume Book as a web-searchable database
