We learn our food habits at an early age. However, unfortunately most day cares and preschools either ask parents to bring in lunch (which becomes cold and unpalatable as the day goes on) or provide very low quality lunch and snack. Lunch brought in from home may be healthier, but it deprives the children from the communal aspect of eating (it is a bit sad when each child is eating his own, rather than sharing family-style with others.) There is a huge opportunity for a company to cater nutritious, healthy meals for out youngest citizens to share during their earliest educational experience.

Each year 30% of food in the U.S. gets thrown away. This enormous waste has substantial costs: damage to the environment, $160 billion of lost value for American businesses and consumers, and a missed opportunity to feed 50 million food insecure Americans annually. Existing food recovery and waste management solutions can be strengthened and supplemented to leverage surplus food and organic waste, thereby maximizing human impact and creating value.

Could a mobile and web platform would provide a technical solution to achieve this challenge?

Using edible food from local farmers and restaurants that would otherwise go to waste, I will create "supper club" events open to the public as a means to educate and create awareness about food waste, while establishing a local food waste community and a food waste reduction campaign.
