More Than 900 Students Awarded Degrees At Harvard Business School
Spirits Not Dampened, Although Rain Forces Diploma Ceremony Indoors
BOSTON -- In an annual rite of spring -- this year, complete with rain -- more than 900 students from more than 60 countries received diplomas from Harvard Business School Dean Kim B. Clark during indoor ceremonies at Harvard University's Bright Hockey Center.
In all, 911 students received Master in Business Administration degrees after completing the two-year, full-time course of study; 54 received their degrees with distinction, having attained both first- and second-year honors. Additionally, 47 students whose two-year academic performance put them in the top five percent of their class, received degrees with high distinction, as George F. Baker Scholars.
Six students received Doctor of Business Administration degrees (list).
During outdoor Class Day exercises yesterday, John C. Whitehead (MBA 1947), chairman of the board of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, encouraged graduating second-year students to possess an ethical backbone in their business lives, and pursue community service in their private lives (full story).
In keeping with a tradition begun in 1997, four faculty members -- two from the first-year curriculum, and two from the second-year -- were honored by graduating students for teaching excellence.
They are:
Frances X. Frei, assistant professor, Technology and Operations Management. |
Jan Rivkin, assistant professor, Strategy. |
Andre F. Perold, George Gund Professor of Finance and Banking, Finance. |
Younge Moon, assistant professor, Marketing. |
