Harvard Business School To Establish Asia-Pacific Research Office in Hong Kong
As part of its Global Initiative, Harvard Business School plans to establish an Asia-Pacific regional office for research and course development. The office will be located in Hong Kong and open in January 1999.
"Our mission is to be close to practice and to important problems wherever these may be. While HBS has been active in the region for many decades, we see this as an opportunity to raise our efforts to a new level. Globalization has inherently reshaped the way business is conducted today, and clearly, Asia has been in the forefront of those changes," said Dean Kim B. Clark.
The School's Global Initiative calls for the establishment of regional centers in key areas of the world, including Europe and Latin America, that will help foster the creation of distinctive research and course development, and will more effectively bring these materials to new and existing audiences. Relationships with key local faculty in the various regions are tremendously important.
"Part of our goal is to establish a regional office in Hong Kong to facilitate the School's research and course development efforts. In addition, we are planning related activities, including the launch of a new comprehensive general management program - The Program for Global Leadership - which will be based in both Singapore and Boston," said Professor Robert Hayes, faculty coordinator for the School's efforts in Asia.
Dean Clark has appointed an Asia Advisory Committee comprised of business leadership from all the countries in the region. He has asked Victor Fung to chair the committee.
Founded in 1908, Harvard Business School is widely regarded around the world as the leader in business education.
