Online Photo Library
To provide cost-effective and high-quality imagery of the campus, staff/faculty, and students to use in HBS print and web publications, we offer a photo library online.
Accessing Images: You can access the photo database at the following address: http://har.merlinone.net/hbs.htm.
Password = sch00l
(0's are zeros; last character is a lower case "L")
Requesting Images: The thumbnail images in the database are watermarked and intended for reference only. To obtain an image for use on the Web or in print, contact Maren Swanson at mswanson@hbs.edu.
When requesting an image, please include the file name (located next to the thumbnails on the results page -- see below). Note that when you download an fpo image, the filename doesn't come with it so you will need to keep track of those yourself. Please also include a description of the materials in which the photos will be used.

Usage Rights: The usage rights for the images vary and are listed in the database with each photo. Be advised that most images will incur a fee for any use other than as part of marketing materials produced by the School (with the exception of club materials - see below).
Student and Alumni Clubs: The School has begun purchasing club usage for photo shoots whenever feasible, so that more photos will be available to the clubs without a fee. These photos can be found by:
(1) following the link at the top of this page to the photo library,
(2) logging in as described above,
(3) and choosing "School-wide & Clubs (or Own)" from the Select Usage Rights menu.
File Sizes: Although variable, the electronic files available can be offset printed up to a size of 4" x 6." If you are going to need a larger image, please allow enough time for us to locate the original image.
Searching for the Most Recent Photography: A complete list of photography can be found here. You can search for images from a specific photo shoot by typing its filename (e.g. EE-Deans050208) in the Enter keyword or filename field in the photo library.
Please contact Maren Swanson (617-496-3471) with questions.
Policies for Commercial or non-School videotaping or photography
Videotaping, still photography, and filming on the HBS campus and within HBS buildings by outside agencies is not allowed without permission from HBS Marketing & Communications.
On rare occasions, still photography may be allowed in classrooms provided permission is granted by the Chief Marketing Officer (Brian Kenny) as well as the faculty member and all students involved. All videos will be owned and used solely by HBS.
Any individual, agency, or organization wishing to take still photographs of the outside of Harvard Business School property for production, broadcast, or public dissemination must obtain prior permission from the Communications Office (1.617.495.6155). Direct non-news requests to Carol Mervis, cmervis@hbs.edu, managing director of Marketing & Communications.
Harvard Business School reserves the right to refuse to grant permission for any reason, including the potential disruption of academic, research, business or student activities; damage to School property; disruption of traffic or parking; or potential safety hazards.
