Top Ten Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out about visiting a class?
You can sign up to visit a class on our site in the class visit. Space is limited as we only have a few seats available in each room.
Do I need to take the new Integrated Reasoning portion of the GMAT?
You do need to take the integrated reasoning portion of the exam if you take it after June 5, 2012.
Can the admissions office put me in touch with a student so I can learn more about the program?
We can’t connect prospective applicants with current students or alumni due to the size of the applicant pool.
Does HBS care if I take the GMAT or GRE?
We promise you, we are really neutral on the two tests, so please take the one that works best for you.
Do you have a TOEFL minimum?
HBS does not have a minimum test score to apply, however, the MBA Admissions Board discourages any candidate with a TOEFL score lower than 109 on the IBT, an IELTS score lower than 7.5, or a PTE score lower than 75 from applying.
Does HBS offer scholarships?
HBS does not have merit-based scholarships. We offer our students a combination of need-based fellowships and loans. Once you are accepted to HBS, you will work with our Financial Aid office to figure out how to finance your MBA.
Who should be my recommenders?
We see many different combinations of recommenders.  Use your best judgment and select people who know you well and can answer the questions.
How exactly does the recommender process work?
You identify your recommenders and their contact information in the form in our application system.  We then follow up with an email to the recommender that explains to them how to complete the recommendation form. Recommenders must upload their recommendations using our online system--they cannot send a letter to our office.
Will HBS get me a job if I apply through the 2+2 program? What kind of work experience does HBS approve?
You will have to secure your own job after college, if you are admitted to the 2+2 program. HBS accepts a wide variety of jobs (we have only turned down a couple).  There is a contact in our office that you will work with if accepted.
When should I apply?  Does it matter which application round I apply in?
We recommend that you apply when you feel like you have the best application to put forward. For international candidates, we find that it is better to apply in one of the earlier rounds to lessen the stress of getting your visa processed and to give you time to work on your English proficiency, if applicable.
