Leadership
Educating leaders who make a difference in the world has been the mission of Harvard Business School since its inception. The Leadership Initiative was created as a catalyst to achieve that mission through active support of the reciprocal relationship between research and leadership development. Simply put, it bridges the gap between leadership theory and practice.
Members of the Leadership Initiative team have contributed substantially to the intellectual capital of HBS. They are authors of numerous case studies, books, and articles on the topic of leadership.
MBA students benefit from the work of the Leadership Initiative across their two years at HBS:
- In the first term of the Required Curriculum, Leadership and Organizational Behavior focuses on how managers become effective leaders by addressing the human side of enterprise.
- In the second term of the Required Curriculum, Leadership and Corporate Accountability teaches students about the complex responsibilities facing business leaders today.
- During the Elective Curriculum year, students can pursue specific leadership interests in courses like The Moral Leader and Authentic Leadership Development.
- Through the Community Values Program, students partner with faculty and staff to broaden a shared set of Community Values into an aspirational and integrative program.
