Healthcare
Patients can't be patient anymore.
Harvard Business School Professor Regina Herzlinger's insightful observation describes the current voracious demand for healthcare information, services, insurance, and technology. Healthcare spending comprises more than 15 percent of the U.S. GDP and is growing much faster than inflation.
Nearly 100 HBS MBAs each year join the ranks of thousands of HBS alumni who work in the healthcare industry in careers ranging from life sciences, medical devices, insurance and healthcare services delivery to professional services such as healthcare venture capital, consulting, and banking.
The HBS Healthcare Initiative was created to help prepare tomorrow's healthcare leaders to address complex problems in the global healthcare industry from a multi-disciplinary, business-oriented perspective. Within the MBA Program, students may:
- Explore the healthcare industry in depth through a number of elective courses in the second year
- Participate in a one-week immersion program focused on healthcare during the January break
- Be matched with a healthcare-specific alumni mentor
- Connect with a healthcare career coach to help guide and refine career goals;
- Sharpen a particular area of healthcare interest through field-based learning by completing an independent study project or field study with faculty sponsorship
- Become a member of the student-run Healthcare Club, offering a variety of benefits ranging from healthcare-focused speaker events and conference to networking events and internship/career opportunities
- Interview with leading biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and health services organizations
