Global
The Global Initiative was created to address the rapidly changing needs of an increasingly global marketplace. This effort helps HBS faculty learn about the latest business developments and best practices wherever they occur and to contribute to these communities by studying emerging regional problems, developing a greater range of international cases, and aiding the development of educational and research institutions.
More than 20 percent of HBS faculty members are from outside the United States and more than half conduct research abroad. At any given time, HBS researchers are active in more than 40 countries. Approximately 30 percent of new HBS cases produced each year feature organizations based outside the United States.
All this benefits our students in the MBA Program — over 30 percent of whom in the Class of 2008 hail from 75 countries worldwide. Within the MBA Program, students may:
- Pursue global business interests through curriculum options
- Join an international Immersion Experience to gain hands-on, real-world knowledge in a country of interest
- Participate in field-based learning, including independent field-study projects with an international focus
- Choose from more than 50 international student clubs offering a range of activities and events
“When I leave HBS, I will have learned remarkable lessons, sharing experiences inside and outside the classroom with an Irish professional tennis player, a Navy SEAL, a South African engineer, a Serbian banker, an Indian police officer, an American brain surgeon, a Swiss management consultant, a British economist, a White House speechwriter, a Senegalese entrepreneur, a French venture capitalist, and an Israeli Army colonel. This is the kind of opportunity that childhood dreams are made of.”
Arijit Roy, MBA '07
Upon graduation, MBA Program alumni join an unparalleled global network in which over 30 percent of our 65,000 alumni live outside the United States. The activities of more than 50 international alumni clubs reflect the fact that our alumni are leaders in businesses and institutions worldwide. HBS alumni gather each year for the HBS Global Leadership Forum, during which fellow business leaders and special guests focus on timely business issues.
