The Psychological Costs of Pay-for-Performance: Implications for Strategic Compensation
This paper posits that the psychological costs of pay-for-performance systems often dominate their benefits to firms, and proposes an integrated theory of strategic compensation.
As the global financial crisis
unfolded in 2008, Harvard Business School launched this site to highlight the research and viewpoints of the faculty on topics ranging from regulation to reporting, and from marketing in a downturn to innovation's role in reshaping the economy. The site entered a new phase in 2010, as faculty turned their attention to how the crisis was changing the nature of management—and management education—on a global scale. This work is now archived on and accessible from Faculty & Research.
