Levitt was a pioneer of fast, affordable housing construction. In many ways, he created the modern suburban landscape. Among other projects, his company built two Levittowns (Long Island and Bucks County) – mass-produced building projects with family houses, community swimming pools, recreation areas, schools and other public buildings. In 1949 alone, the company built 4,604 houses, selling them for over $42 million.
