Initially a spark plug manufacturer, Briggs was the co-founder of Briggs & Stratton Corporation in 1909 and organized Outboard Motors Corporation in 1929. He was instrumental in expanding the recreational boating industry with Outboard’s products. During his 34 year CEO tenure, he increased earnings from $300,000 to over $10 million.
