Goldwyn is recognized worldwide as one of the most significant single individuals in the history of the motion picture industry. Goldwyn became Hollywood's pre-eminent independent filmmaker producing a body of work, which included 80 films. In 1947, Goldwyn made “The Best Years of Our Lives,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and grossed almost $10 million in its opening year, an astronomical sum at the time.
