Johnson established J&J management policies, including the “credo,” which still exists today. He decentralized the company during the 1930s by dividing it into a number of small divisions, each responsible for a few products. As part of this plan, he also bought a number of companies and set them up under virtually autonomous leaders. Today, J&J owns more than 100 companies, each operating more or less independently.
