In addition to continuing the success of the chewing gum products, PK Wrigley greatly improved labor relations at the firm, instituting an “income insurance” plan, a gradual retirement program, and an extensive pension system. During World War II when lack of regular chewing gum ingredients nearly halted production, he continued his father’s trend of quirky advertising schemes, allowing the gum to rise to extreme levels of popularity in the post-war years.
