Under Brown’s leadership, Johns-Manville became the world’s largest producer of asbestos building materials, insulation, and allied products. Brown instituted both collective bargaining and the eight-hour day/forty hour week for management. Brown also began the practice of surveying employees’ attitudes to determine future company policies.
