Macke oversaw a period of growth and expansion for the company. During his CEO tenure, the revenues of Dayton Hudson tripled – from $6.5 billion in 1983 to $19.2 billion in 1994. The number of retail locations also expanded dramatically during this time period – from 350 to over 900. Macke achieved some of his greatest success with the growth and development of Target Stores, which has become one of the nation’s largest discount retailers.
