In 1913, when Cullinan resigned his presidency, Texaco controlled over 4% of the nation’s oil production. Cullinan had grown Texaco from an initial capitalization of $3 million to one of $30 million with assets of approximately $60 million. A successful risk-taker, Cullinan once risked $6 million on an Oklahoma pipeline when the company’s assets were less than $8 million.
