Yang and fellow Stanford University doctoral student, David Filo, created the precursor to Yahoo! to aid them in their use of the burgeoning world wide web. What began as a simple hobby eventually turned into one of the few success stories of the nineties Internet boom. With venture capital seed money in 1995, Yang and Filo launched the search engine, Yahoo! By including advertising on their site (one of the first to do so) and by structuring deals with Netscape Navigator and others, Yahoo has been able to profitably grow throughout the nineties and into the new century. Yang continues to introduce new capabilities to keep his site fresh and relevant.
