In 1947, Ahmanson bought Home Savings of America, a modest Savings & Loan with less than $1 million in assets. By 1961, Home Savings became the first Savings & Loan with more than $1 billion in assets. Ahmanson's Home Savings provided more mortgage loans than any other Savings & Loan during the home-building boom between the 1940s and 1960s.
