When Stettinius joined Diamond Match, it was the United States’ leading producer of matches, but it was a suffering entity. Within a few short years, however, Stettinius turned the company around and initiated an advertising campaign to boost popularity of the company’s products. Stettinius, however, is most known for denouncing Diamond Match’s patent rights to the first nonpoisonous match making process, promoting safety by allowing the industry to have full access to the new technique.
