Having gained much international experience while serving in the United States military during World War II, Rockefeller joined Chase in 1945, honing his international banking skills as he assumed increasing amounts of responsibility and leadership. As Chase’s CEO, he continued to strengthen the bank’s international business which contributed $6 billion of income in 1979 and positioned it as an important lender to large, multinational American industrial conglomerates, especially oil companies.
