Four years before owning his record label outright, Geffen structured a deal with Warner Communications to provide distribution services and financial underwriting. Geffen was extremely adept at spotting and promoting talent. He convinced John Lennon, Elton John and Donna Summer to sign with his label. In less than five years, Geffen Records became the third largest label in the recording industry, and Geffen sold it to MCA in 1990. Beyond his success in the music industry, Geffen has also produced and developed a number of highly acclaimed movies and Broadway productions.
