Glass is credited with leading Wal-Mart through an aggressive expansion program – increasing sales ten-fold (from $16 billion to $165 billion), developing the SuperCenter concept combining groceries and general merchandise, and opening hundreds of retail locations across the globe. Glass was an early proponent of automated technology that Wal-Mart has utilized to develop one of the most sophisticated distribution networks in the industry. Under his leadership, Wal-Mart became the largest retailer in the world and the second largest firm on the Fortune 500 list.
