Mathile bought the struggling pet food company from the founder when it had only one main product. Over the next decade, Mathile increased the company’s revenues by tenfold and introduced a full line of pet food and other pet-related products. In so doing, Mathile brought national recognition to the former “word-of-mouth” brand. The once fledgling firm was sold to Procter & Gamble for $2.3 billion in 1999.
