Little founded the largest unendowed commercial industrial research laboratory in the United States. Little, who was initially interested in chemistry of cellulose and its application in production, gradually expanded his interest to include other fields of applied science and patents. He was instrumental in the scientific research of airplane dopes, acetone production and smoke filters.
