Carrier was a pioneer in the field of mechanical refrigeration. Perfecting an air cooling system, Carrier first introduced air conditioning to theaters in the 1930’s and later went on to develop elaborate, but affordable, air conditioning systems for businesses. His ability to effectively control air quality in high-rises was a key element in the development and expansion of the modern skyscraper.
