Doan was responsible for Dow Chemical’s greatest diversification and expansion. Doan began by delegating increased authority to department heads and building a larger sales force trained to become market and production analysts. Upon entering his presidency, Doan announced a $25 million agenda for expansion and directed his efforts toward plastics. In 1951, Doan announced a $100 million program for new plant facilities, solidifying Dow’s expansion.
