John W. Culligan
Culligan capped off a 49-year career with American Home Products as its CEO from 1981 to 1986. During his tenure he doubled AHP’s research & development budget, building a pipeline of 24 new drugs and 48 new drug applications. Despite the heavy focus on research spending, Culligan continued AHP’s 20-year run of 30%+ return on shareholders’ equity performance.
