The HBS Video Showcase lets anyone at HBS take full advantage of the School's vast video resources. It also serves as a prime example of developing 'scaleable' technology, a key element in the HBS IT strategy.
Video plays an increasingly vital role at HBS, from enlivening case studies to capturing singular moments in the School's history. The ever-expanding video archive is a treasure trove of HBS activity: lectures, case studies, interviews with business leaders, company site visits, faculty presentations, guest speakers, awards ceremonies, even talent shows and rafting trips. These materials can be used in countless ways: to create academic materials such as online cases and class assignments, to enhance presentations and research, and to enrich community activities.
As the use of online video exploded in the mid-1990s, the HBS IT Multimedia Group developed a Java-based application called Videotools to help IT staff manage its burgeoning online video archive. To borrow a catchphrase from one of our vendor partners, "If you have it but you can't find it, you don't really have it."
