IT Concepts

IT Concepts Tutorial was created by Professors David Upton and Kent Bowen to help students understand the basics of how information technology works and the many purposes it serves in the business world and to familiarize students with the technological language that enables managers to communicate effectively with IT specialists.

IT Concepts

Used in the MBA required course, Technology and Operations Management, the online tutorial consists of nine self-paced modules beginning with the basic elements of information technology, computer hardware, and software. The tutorial also includes topics on computer networking, the Internet, and how companies determine their IT needs and plan implementations. In the final modules, the tutorial looks at the impact of IT on specific enterprise applications.

IT Concepts

The goal by the end of the tutorial is for students to feel more comfortable with IT vocabulary and to gain an ability to communicate more effectively about IT in a business setting.

IT Concepts

IT Concepts is built upon the School's upgraded Tutorial Platform. The tutorial contains graphics, animations, and a glossary of IT terms. Students are tested at the end of each module for proficiency in the terms and concepts described.

Administrators have the ability to track student progress and review tutorial quiz results in the online administrative tool.

Because information technology has become such an integral part of business today, it is important for students to master this material before they arrive at HBS. In order for students to gain this knowledge, the IT Concepts Tutorial has now been added to the School's Prematriculation tutorials requirement that students complete before they arrive on campus for the first year of the MBA Program.
