Developmental Network Questionnaire (DNQ)
The Developmental Network Questionnaire (DNQ) elicits information about an individual's current developmental relationships and the network they comprise - a developmental network. This self-assessment instrument helps individuals identify patterns in whom and where they go to for support in their careers, and it helps individuals identify areas for improvement in cultivating developmental relationships.
The tool asks users to enter basic information about themselves as well as about several people who have recently had an impact on their professional career. Once that key information is entered, the users provide details about the relationships between themselves and their network as well as between members of that network.
After defining the relationships, the tool presents the network structure, provides relational data about the network, and displays a visual Network Map that shows the closeness and diversity of the network relationships. The entire process can be completed for both Current and Past network relationships.
Finally, an Interpretive Guide is provided to help users understand the implications of the results. A blank Network Map is also provided to allow users to try and predict how their 5-year outlook developmental network will look.
This tool is used in the MBA elective Self-Assessment and Career Development course. Because developmental relationships are important at any career stage, this tool is equally useful as part of a management training or executive development program. The DNQ was created entirely using Flash technology. The navigation, presentation of text and graphics, and logic necessary to plot the input data into the summary graph are done within the Flash Application Program Interface (API).
