Careers

Puneet Sapra

"I am interested in helping more people in the world access affordable healthcare by addressing inefficient processes and poorly allocated resources. Entrepreneurship is my path to doing that."

Puneet Sapra
MBA 2006

HBS students who are pursuing careers in healthcare receive job search support from MBA Career Services in conjunction with the Healthcare Initiative and the student-led Healthcare Club.

MBA Career Services maintains a job bank of internship and full-time job opportunities, and many companies hold information sessions, networking events, and interviews on campus. In addition, many students do their own searches based on their particular interests. Healthcare career coaches, who hold MBA degrees and have extensive experience in the industry, are available to assist students in career planning, securing summer internships, and finding full-time jobs.

Student-Alumni Mentor Program

Each year students interested in healthcare have the opportunity to participate in a mentor program. Alumni working in all sectors of the healthcare industry volunteer to be a mentor and provide guidance on topics ranging from career choices to work/life balance. This is not a job placement program, though students seek guidance on career choices. The program is supported and administered jointly by the HBS Healthcare Initiative, the HBS Health Industry Alumni Association, and the student-run Healthcare Club.

Summer Internships

Summer internships within healthcare are highly encouraged for all students who seek a full-time job in the industry. Summer internships are the best way to gain hands-on experience for students who are changing careers or who are exploring different segments of the industry. Recent MBA summer internship experiences have included working in marketing positions at biotechnology and medical device companies; exploring the options for a well-known consumer business company to expand into healthcare; and identifying investment opportunities in the healthcare technology sector.

Loan Assistance

Students who take jobs with non-profit/public sector organizations or whose salaries are below the average HBS MBA salary may qualify for loan assistance. These programs, funded by HBS, are part of a strategy to reduce the barriers to employment of MBA's who enter nonprofit/public-sector jobs within five years of graduation. See HBS Financial Aid for more information.

Healthcare Recruiting Partners

Harvard Business School students are recruited by a wide variety of healthcare organizations, including healthcare startups, venture capital firms, consulting firms, investment banking, managed health plans, hospital systems, e-health firms, pharmaceutical firms, medical device manufacturers, and biotechnology companies.
