Why HBS?

The Harvard Business School MBA is about more than just business management. Everything we do here, we do with an eye toward leadership. The healthcare industry deserves exceptional leadership as much as any other firm in any industry. And the biotech sector in particular, given its highly regulated nature and politically-charged reforms, needs top-notch leadership.

How will having an MBA help your career in the healthcare industry?

Using the case study method, I discovered that I am good at quickly assessing and analyzing a situation in order to develop a plan of action. Being able to make decisions with the data available, as opposed to all the data, is critical in healthcare. Also, because HBS offers a general management program I have gained insight into many other industries. There are many best practices which can be adapted to healthcare.

How well do you feel HBS has prepared you for the healthcare industry?

HBS has offered me unparalleled access to nearly every aspect of the healthcare sector. In two fast-paced years, I participated in countless executive presentations, networking events, and a value-based healthcare program during January Term with Professor Michael Porter. I even served as VP of Marketing for the 2009 HBS Healthcare Conference. This holistic approach to viewing healthcare has prepared me to understand, as a manager, all of the other "moving parts" of healthcare, no matter my role in the industry.
