Kent Thiry has been Chairman and CEO of Davita, Inc. since October 1999. DaVita is a provider of integrated dialysis services for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure. The company’s more than 27,000 teammates work in over 1,300 kidney dialysis centers spread across the U.S. Current annual revenues are over $5 Billion. DaVita cares for approximately 100,000 dialysis patients in the U.S. every week, almost one (1) out of every three (3) in America.
Kent serves on the Board of Directors of Varian Medical Systems, Inc. Varian Medical Systems, Inc. serves the medical equipment market as the world's leading manufacturer of integrated radiotherapy systems for treating cancer and the premier supplier of X-ray tubes and flat panels for diagnostic imaging applications. Prior Board seats include the Chairmanship of Oxford Health Plans.
Kent served as a Partner at Bain & Company from 1987-1991.
In May 2005, Kent received the Adaptive Business Leaders (ABL) 2005 "Leadership in Innovation" Award. The ABL award recognizes DaVita's innovative approach to building a culture of teamwork through a sense of community. His management philosophy has been discussed in various forums, including a Stanford Business School Case Study, the Wall Street Journal and Modern Healthcare.
Kent earned his BA in Political Science, with Distinction and Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University in 1978. He earned his MBA, with Honors, from Harvard Business School in 1983, where he was also elected to the Century Club.
Kent was raised in Wisconsin. He has two children, Matthew and Christina. His wife, Denise O'Leary, is a director of Medtronic and US Airways Group, Inc. She is also a member of the Stanford University Board of Trustees, Chair of the Stanford Board Committee for the Stanford Medical Center and a director of Stanford Hospitals and Clinics, where she was chair of the board from 2000 through 2005. She is Chair of the Corporation for Supportive Housing. She is a former venture capital partner at Menlo Ventures and formerly a director of Alza, Del Monte and Chiron Corporation.
