At HBS, there are many opportunities to engage in health care activities, network with alumni who work in the industry, and delve more deeply into various health care sectors. With nearly 200 events annually, both on and off campus, the Health Care Initiative (HCI) acts as a resource to keep students apprised of the various health care-related happenings and help students priortize their schedules if necessary. The Fall is an exciting time of year on Campus and the right time to explore the HBS health care offerings.
Below is a listing of some of the annual programs and activities that are hosted by the HCI and the HCC:
Health Care Club
Join the HBS Health Care Club (HCC). The HCC is a student-led group and one of the largest and most active student clubs on campus. The club has more than 250 members that comprises MBA students, PhD students, and HBS partners with backgrounds that span all sectors of health care.
Health Care Welcome Reception: Each Fall the HCI hosts a kick-off meet and greet to introduce the RCs to the various HBS health care resources at HBS. This is a great opportunity to meet faculty who focus on health care, fellow incoming students, Health Care Club leaders, and a number of other HBS health care constituents.
Health Care 101: This broad overview of the health care industry is taught by faculty early in the fall semester. The presentation includes the latest facts and figures regarding the various health care sectors, growth projections, as well as ways to secure summer interships and a number of other tips on moving forward in health care.
Health Care Industry Week: Take advantage of panels and presentations designed to introduce students to diverse industry sectors, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, devices, diagnostics, digital health, payors, providers, policy, international health, venture capital, consulting, and investment banking.
STUDENT-ALUMNI MENTOR PROGRAM: Students interested in health care are matched with alumni who can provide direction on navigating the complex health care industry.
Speakers: High-profile speakers from all areas of health care visit campus regularly. Meet CEOs from companies such as Eli Lilly, Vertex, Tenet Healthcare, BCBS, Boston Scientific, and Partners In Health, as well as venture capital firms, entrepreneurs, and health care consultants.
Conference: HBS Health Care Conference is an annual health care event organized entirely by HCC members. The conference brings together more than 600 students, alumni, and professionals, plus 30 speakers from diverse areas of health care.
PhysicIan Shadow Program: Students who are interested in health care delivery have the opportunity to shadow physicians at area hospitals and community health centers. This program provides a glimpse into the front lines of health care delivery.
Networking and Community Building: There are regular mixers and small-group dinners with alumni, other business school students, and the broader Harvard community.
