Everett S. Spain
Everett Spain is a U.S. Army officer, a second-year doctoral student at Harvard Business School, focusing on Human Capital. Following his time at HBS, Everett will join West Point's Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership as an Assistant Professor.
Everett Spain is a U.S. Army officer, a second-year doctoral student at Harvard Business School, focusing on Human Capital. He recently returned from Germany, where he was the Commanding Officer of the U.S. Army Garrison-Schweinfurt, responsible for leading a community of over 10,000 Americans. His prior assignment was as a White House Fellow, where he was the acting Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Financial Stability (TARP). Prior, Everett was the personal aide-de-camp for the Commander, Multi-National Force-Iraq, during “the Surge”.
Early in his career, Everett was a distinguished graduate of West Point and member of the winning team of the 82d Airborne Division’s Best Ranger Competition. As a company commander, Everett deployed his unit to Kosovo, and they were subsequently recognized with the Itschner Award, for the best engineer company in the Army. As an MBA student at Duke, his peers nominated him for the Fuqua School of Business’s Spaulding Award for Leadership. Afterwards, he returned to West Point, where he taught leadership and was the course director for Leading Organizations through Change.
Everett is a graduate of U.S. Army Ranger and Sapper Schools and is a Master Parachutist. He has received the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He is also the author of several published articles on leadership, as was recognized with the MacArthur Leadership Writing Award in 2006. Additionally, Everett has received the Bronze deFluery Medal (Engineers), the Honorary Order of Saint Barbara (Field Artillery), and the Order of Saint Michael (Aviation). He is also the recipient of the Secretary of the Treasury's Honor Award.
Everett is also a licensed professional engineer (PE) and is currently in the process of becoming a Holocaust Survivor Partner. He is a member of HBS's Christian Fellowship and the Armed Forces Alumni Association.
Everett's spouse, a master’s candidate at the Harvard Extension School, and their children also enjoy being active in the Harvard University Community.
