Dr. Jens Deerberg-Wittram is the first President of the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM). Before joining ICHOM in 2012, Jens served from 2004 to 2012 as Chief Executive for Schön Klinik, a German for-profit 15 hospital, 4.500 bed provider organization. He has developed and implemented value-based corporate strategy and established a worldwide leading medical outcomes measurement and reporting system. Jens also has a strong track record in medical management and controlling, quality management, marketing and ebusiness and hospital IT.
Before being elected as Chief Executive at Schön Klinik, Jens was Managing Director of a 250 bed Neurological center. Prior to joining Schön Klinik, Jens was working for four years as a consultant and project leader for BCG. He was an active member of the Health Care Practice Area and BCG’s European payer & provider initiative by then. Prior to his work as a strategy consultant, he was serving in the Business Development Department for Molecular Diagnostics at Boehringer Mannheim, the world’s largest diagnostics manufacturer at that time.
Jens has served in various healthcare associations, e.g., as a board member of the German Private Hospitals‘ Association and the Healthcare Commission of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce.
Dr. Deerberg-Wittram studied medicine at the Universities of Hannover, Bonn, Athens, Patras and Kiel and received his medical degree from Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel. He did postgraduate work in human genetics and wrote his doctoral thesis in molecular oncology. Since 2009 he has closely collaborated on value-based healthcare issues with Professors Michael Porter and Bob Kaplan from HBS. He is a regularly lecturer in executive courses about value-based healthcare delivery at Harvard Business School. In January 2013 Jens will be Senior Fellow and Faculty Member of the Harvard Business School.
